Overview

You can use this document to learn about the configuration parameters available in a configuration file, specifically for Inputs.

An input tells the Edge Delta agent:

  • Data types to listen for
  • Data locations
  • Data configurations
  • Data tags

Each input allows you to create a label, which is used to map the input to a specific monitoring rule or streaming and archiving destination.

At a high level, to manage inputs, you must create and manage a YAML file.

Note

The document explains how to define an input; however, an input is not active until the input is added to a workflow. To learn how to create a workflow, see Workflows.

Review Supported Input Types

The Edge Delta App supports the following input types:

Input typeDescription

Agent Components Health Stats Inputs

This input type reports health-related data for the agent, such as status, error count, and success count. This information can be useful for debugging.

To learn more, see Agent Components Health Stats Inputs.

Agent Heartbeat

This input type reports heartbeat metrics for the agent.

To learn more, see Agent Heartbeat Inputs.

Agent Stats

This input type reports agent-level metrics, such as lines analyzed and bytes analyzed.

To learn more, see Agent Stats Inputs.

CloudWatch Event Logs (AWS)

This input type allows you to specify a set of AWS CloudWatch Log Events for Edge Delta to monitor.

To learn more, see CloudWatch Event Logs (AWS) Inputs.

Containers (Docker)

This input type allows you to specify a set of Docker containers for Edge Delta to monitor.

To learn more, see Containers (Docker) Inputs.

Container Stats (Docker)

This input type reports container-level metrics, such as CPU, memory, disk, for each container that runs on the host.

To learn more, see Container Stats (Docker) Inputs.

ECS Container (AWS)

This input type allows you to specify a set of ECS assets (tasks, containers, etc.) for Edge Delta to monitor.

To learn more, see ECS Container (AWS) Inputs.

EDPort Collector

This input type allows you to specify a set of ports and protocols that the agent will listen for.

To learn more, see EDPort Collector Inputs.

Files

This input type allows you to specify a set of files for Edge Delta to monitor.

To learn more, see Files Inputs.

FluentD

This input type allows you to specify a set of ports and protocols that the agent will listen for.

To learn more, see FluentD Collector Inputs.

Kafka

This input type allows Edge Delta agent to collect events from a Kafka topic.

To learn more, see Kafka Inputs.

Pub/Sub (Google)

This input type allows you to specify a Pub/Sub project for Edge Delta to monitor. Specifically, EdgeDelta will consume messages from Pub/Sub subscriptions.

To learn more, see Pub/Sub (Google) Inputs.

Kubernetes

This input type allows you to specify Kubernetes pods and namespaces for Edge Delta to monitor.

To learn more, see Kubernetes Inputs.

Kubernetes Events

This input type collects and sends Kubernetes events to the Edge Delta backend.

To learn more, see Kubernetes Events Inputs.

Kubernetes Stats

This input type collects and sends pod metrics, such as CPU and memory usage, to a configured streaming destination, as well as to the Edge Delta backend.

To learn more, see Kubernetes Stats Inputs.

NATS JetStream

This input type allows you to specify a NATS stream subscription for Edge Delta to monitor.

To learn more, see NATS JetStream Inputs.

OTLP (Open Telemetry)

This input type allows you to specify a set of ports and protocols that the agent will listen for.

To learn more, see OTLP (Open Telemetry) Inputs.

Ports

This input type allows you to specify a set of ports and protocols that the agent will listen for.

To learn more, see Ports Inputs.

S3 via SQS (AWS)

This input type allows you to specify log files in an S3 bucket for Edge Delta to monitor. With this action, S3 will be monitored via SQS.

To learn more, see S3 via SQS (AWS) Inputs.

System Stats

This input type reports host-level metrics, such as CPU, memory, disk, for the host where the agent is deployed on.

To learn more, see System Stats Inputs.

Windows Events

This input type allows you to specify Windows Events channels for Edge Delta to monitor.

To learn more, see Windows Events Inputs.

Create and Manage Inputs

To create and manage inputs, you must populate a YAML file.

To access the YAML file for a new configuration:

  1. In the Edge Delta App, on the left-side navigation, click Data Pipeline, and then click Agent Settings.
  2. Click Create Configuration.
  3. Click YAML.
  4. Enter your desired parameters, and then click Save.

To access the YAML file for an existing configuration:

  1. In the Edge Delta App, on the left-side navigation, click Data Pipeline, and then click Agent Settings.
  2. Locate the desired configuration, then under Actions, click the vertical ellipses, and then click Edit.
  3. Review the YAML file, make your changes, and then click Save.
